  • Clean-tech group forms to support Obama

Executives in the clean-tech sector plan to get a whole lot louder in their support for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. The amount of money allocated to research and development in renewable energies is lower today than that of the Carter administration in the 1970s. The U.S. government has long given subsidies to energy markets like coal and nuclear, and the green-tech industry should now ask that it level the playing field.

  • Obama's plan to combat cancer

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama plans to boost the fight against cancer by doubling spending on research, campaign officials said Friday. The money for more research would be generated by the reforming of federal contracting, cutting congressional spending and doing away with unnecessary federal programs.

  • McCain Runs Afoul of Copyright, Again
Earlier this year John McCain was forced to remove a YouTube video because it used the song "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, without permission. It appears he hasn't changed his stance on using music without copyright, as at the conclusion of the GOP convention on Thursday night, the campaign played the song "Barracuda" by Heart. Sarah Palin's high school nickname was reportedly "Sarah Barracuda." Whatever.

  • GOP fears Ron Paul, refuses to count votes

Ron Paul supporters are wondering what happened to the Ron Paul votes during the GOP presidential role call last night. Five Paul votes announced from Alaska (Gov. Sarah Palin's home state) were greeted with boos from the convention floor. But some 18-25 Paul votes went unacknowledged, including six Paul votes from Minnesota.

  • Obama says GOP avoiding issues on voters' minds

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that Republicans at their national convention are attacking him to avoid talking about the sagging economy and housing problems.

  • Obama piles up 10 million dollars after Palin attacks

Barack Obama has taken in a record 10 million dollars in campaign cash since Republican vice presidential pick Sarah Palin's scorching assault on the Democratic White House nominee. "Palin's attacks have resulted in our campaign raising over 10 million dollars -- a one day record -- I hope she gives a speech every day," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

  • McCain, Obama battle over who can best change Washington

The 72-year-old McCain, campaigning to become the oldest first-term president in history, presented himself as a reformer willing to take on his fellow Republicans, including an unpopular President Bush.

  • McCain makes bipartisan pitch as leader for all

Not merely a Republican. Not merely a candidate. John McCain cast himself as a leader for all Americans, regardless of party or status.

  • Hispanic media not happy with McCain

Far from simply translating the Republican National Convention's proceedings for their audiences, members of the Spanish-language media are focusing on the issues of greatest importance to Hispanic voters. But that's no easy task when their viewers' and listeners' top concern, immigration reform, is the one issue that presumptive GOP candidate John McCain wants most to avoid.

  • Obama defends community organizers

The work of community organizers, who work for low salaries to help people in impoverished communities, is getting lots of attention this week as Republicans poke jabs at Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's job experience.

  • John McCain's speech to the RNC

Sen. John McCain spoke to the Republican National Convention on Thursday night. Here is the text of that speech:

Thank you. Thank you all very much. Thank you.

Tonight, I have a privilege given few Americans: the privilege of accepting our party's nomination for president of the United States.

  • McCain has early praise for President Bush

John McCain didn't wait long before praising the man he hopes to succeed -- President Bush. At the outset of his speech accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. McCain drew cheers from the GOP convention when he said, "I'm grateful to the President for leading us in those dark days following the worst attack on American soil in our history, and keeping us safe from another attack many thought was inevitable.
